Police have been cracking down on speeding "during the hours of darkness" in an area of the borough.

Whitefield roads Bury New Road, Bury Old Road, Higher Lane, Radcliffe New Road and Thatch Leach Lane were targeted.

Several drivers were reported for speeding, with some allegedly clocking up to 46mph in a 30mph zone.

One driver was said to have been speeding and failed to stop as police investigate the case.

A Greater Manchester Police Bury South spokesperson said: “This week, the Whitefield neighbourhood team conducted a speeding operation during the hours of darkness in and around Whitefield.

“The following areas were targeted: Bury New Road, Bury Old Road, Higher Lane, Radcliffe New Road and Thatch Leach Lane.

“Several drivers have been stopped and issued with traffic offence reports for speeding between the range of 36mph and 46mph in a 30mph zone other drivers will be receiving correspondence in the post from us shortly.

“Enquiries are ongoing in relation to a vehicle that was travelling at excess speed and failed to stop when requested.”
