A woman got "stuck" after walking on ground near Fairfield General Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were sent to land near the River Roch, just off Jericho Road, behind Fairfield Hospital.
Police and the fire service worked together to get the woman to safety.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called this evening (Tuesday) after concern for a woman.
“She is believed to have been walking near the river when she got stuck.
“The woman has since been found and is safe with officers.”
A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority confirmed that fire crews had been called to assist police officers and that it was a police-led incident.

One resident said: "Although the hospital is close, we knew it wasn't ambulance sirens we were hearing.
“When we looked out of the window, we saw around seven fire units heading down the road just after 4pm.
"It looked as though they were making their way towards the river."
